Two mixtures containing Ca(NO3)2•4H2O and KNO3 or Mg(NO3)2•6H2O of composition close to their eutectics are described as promising thermal heat storage (TES) materials suitable for passive solar heating applications. Supercooling is hindered by a system which apparently may be applied to other salt mixtures of this type. A comparison is made with other salt mixtures containing magnesium salts previously studied. Tests are in progress to confirm that no efficiency reduction after many heating/cooling cycles occurs.
